1UZ V8-Powered Mazda Truck with ZF 8HP50 Gearbox Setup at Whifbitz

We had this awesome-looking Mazda truck roll into the Whifbitz workshop this week — and it’s packing some serious hardware under the bonnet!

The truck has been fitted with a ZF 8HP50 8-speed automatic gearbox, a fantastic transmission known for its strength and lightning-fast shifts. It was already running a Turbolamik transmission control unit (TCU), but the setup wasn’t quite right. The main issue? The TCU hadn’t been correctly configured and was missing a map sensor — a key component needed for proper operation.

But that’s not all — under the hood sits a Toyota 1UZ V8 engine, making for one seriously cool and unique combo. The 1UZ is a legendary motor with smooth, reliable power delivery, and paired with the 8-speed ZF gearbox, it’s going to make this Mazda truck a seriously fast and great-sounding machine.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get any dyno footage this time due to vibrations coming from the vehicle.
