A few weeks ago at the Whifbitz workshop, we welcomed a legendary Toyota Supra VVTi 6-Speed for fault diagnostics and some essential maintenance.
The Supra, especially in its 6-speed V160/V161 manual form, is one of the most iconic performance cars ever built. Even decades on, these cars remain highly sought after, both for their driving experience and tuning potential.

Fault Diagnostic
The customer reported an issue where the car’s power was cutting out. On inspection, we quickly noticed the Supra had a Racelogic traction control system fitted. We’ve seen these units develop faults in the past, and sure enough, this was the culprit. After removing the system, the problem was resolved and the car was back to running smoothly.

General Maintenance
With the fault corrected, we moved on to some important maintenance work to keep this classic in top condition. The work carried out included:
- Full service including cambelt and water pump replacement
- New crank and camshaft seals
- New gearbox mount
- Whifbitz solid shifter bush kit installation
- Replacement propshaft coupling
- Fresh antifreeze
- New rear trailing arms
- New steering rack track rod end
- Full alignment
These preventative measures not only extend the life of the car but also ensure it drives as intended.
Spec Highlights
This Supra isn’t just about reliability — it’s also running a well-chosen selection of upgrades that give it a purposeful look and performance edge:
- Do-Luck front bumper
- TRD rear spoiler
- Veilside side skirts and rear spats
- Volk Racing 18″ wheels
- Greddy titanium exhaust system
- UK-spec brakes
- Front mount intercooler
- Link ECU
Dyno Results
To finish off, we put the Supra on our in-house dyno to check its health and power output. The car produced 327whp (383bhp), which is spot on for the modifications fitted. The car is fitted with a Link ecu mapped elsewhere and is currently running the turbos in TTC mode so not in sequential like the left the factory hence the way the dyno graph looks below.

Why It Matters
