Toyota MR2 Turbo Rev 3 – Back on the Road After 10 Years!

Another classic brought back to life in the Whifbitz workshop!
This stunning Toyota MR2 Turbo Rev 3 had been sitting dry-stored in a garage for around 10 years, waiting for its turn to hit the road again. Our job was to carry out a full inspection and get it roadworthy once more — and we’re happy to say it turned out to be in excellent condition.

Full Inspection & Service

After a thorough check-over, we found the car was generally in great shape, but it still needed a few key service items and upgrades to ensure reliability and performance. Here’s what we carried out:

  • Full service including cambelt, dizzy cap, and rotor arm
  • New brake discs all round
  • Porterfield fast road pads for improved stopping power
  • HEL Performance braided brake lines
  • New handbrake cables, as the old ones were seized
  • Apexi air filter for the intake kit
  • Sports cat fitted so it would legally pass the MOT emissions test
  • Powerflex bushes to replace some of the cracked original 30-year-old rubber ones
  • A brand-new set of Michelin PS5 tyres for improved grip and handling
  • Air conditioning re-gas, bringing the cabin cooling back to full performance

Once everything was complete, we booked it in for its MOT, and it flew through with no advisories — a fantastic result for a car that had been off the road for so long!

Modifications Fitted

This MR2 Turbo is lightly modified, keeping the balance between everyday drivability and performance fun. The current spec includes:

  • Exhaust system
  • Sports cat
  • Apexi intake kit
  • Blow-off valve (BOV)
  • Powerflex suspension bushes
  • Michelin PS5 tyres

Dyno Power Run Results

To finish the job properly, we took it over to the Dynojet rolling road for a power run. This was to confirm everything was running smoothly and the engine was pulling well. The result?
👉 214whp, which equates to approximately 258bhp — spot on for the mods fitted!
